A-Force BJJ · Vilnius and Kaunas
The things people ask most often before their first class. If your question is not here, write to us and we will answer.
✓Do I need to be fit to start?
No. People of any fitness level can start, and previous sports or martial arts experience is not required. You set your own pace, and the coaches guide you safely through the basics of BJJ.
✓What should I bring to my first class?
Comfortable sports clothing without zips or other hard details, water and slippers. No kimono is needed for the first class.
✓Is the first class really free?
Yes. The first class is free and comes with no commitment. Sign up, choose the gym you prefer and try BJJ for yourself.
✓Where should an adult begin?
If you have no BJJ experience, we recommend the 12-week fundamentals programme, which walks you through the most important positions, movements and techniques step by step. If you already train, you can join the classes that match your level.
✓Can I start with no martial arts background?
Yes. A large share of our members began BJJ with no combat sports background at all. In beginner classes everything is taught gradually, starting from the very basics.
✓Is it too late to start at 40?
Not at all. BJJ rewards technique, body control and correct use of leverage, so people start at every age and fitness level. You can adjust the intensity to suit you.
✓Will I have to spar in my first class?
No. You will first get familiar with the basic movements, positions and safety principles. Harder partner work comes gradually.
✓Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe?
There are no strikes in BJJ. You learn to control an opponent using technique, body weight and leverage. Classes are supervised by coaches, and beginners are introduced to techniques and safety principles step by step.
✓What is the difference between GI and NO-GI?
In GI classes you train in a kimono, and grips on the fabric are used for control and technique. In NO-GI you train without a kimono, so more depends on direct body control and the pace is faster. A-Force BJJ runs both.
✓How long is a class?
Adult classes usually last about an hour. Kids classes are shorter and depend on the age group.
✓How often should I train?
Two or three classes a week is a good start. That is enough to learn steadily and improve. You can add more later, based on your goals and schedule.
✓Is BJJ suitable for women?
Yes. BJJ suits both men and women, regardless of previous sports experience. A-Force BJJ also runs separate women's classes.
✓Where do classes take place?
In four A-Force BJJ gyms: two in Vilnius (Žirmūnai and Naujamiestis) and two in Kaunas (Savanorių pr. and Šilainiai).
✓How much does membership cost?
The price depends on the gym and the type of membership you choose. Send us a message or give us a call and we will help you pick the option that fits you best.
✓Can I put my membership on hold?
Yes, and it is free. The shortest hold is two weeks, and the exact terms depend on your membership type. In case of injury or illness we handle it individually.
✓Can I train at different A-Force BJJ gyms?
Yes. With an A-Force BJJ membership you can train in all our gyms in Vilnius and Kaunas and pick the classes that fit your schedule.
✓From what age can children start BJJ?
From the age of four. Kids classes are split into 4–6, 7–10 and 11–14 age groups, so the programme, workload and teaching method match the age.
✓Are kids classes safe?
Yes. There are no strikes in BJJ, classes are supervised by coaches and follow clear safety rules. Children learn technique, body control and how to work safely with a training partner.
✓What should my child bring to the first class?
Comfortable sports clothing without zips or other hard details, water and slippers. No kimono is needed for the first class.
✓Does my child need previous sports experience?
No. Previous sports or martial arts experience is not required. Classes are matched to the child's age and experience, so newcomers learn gradually from the basics.
✓Can we try a class first?
Yes. The first class is free, so your child can meet the coaches and see the class and the room before deciding to continue.
